McHenry Races to 2nd In The Championship
Barry-John | Monday 13th October 2008, 5:48pm
Barry-John McHenry from Raheny finished in 2nd place in the 2008 Fiat Uno Cup Championship, after 11 closely fought rounds in Ireland, Northern Ireland and Wales.
Barry-John had led the championship for 2 months early in the season but with 2 non-finishes due to mechanical problems at Anglesey (Wales) and on the penultimate round in Mondello. This meant that taking the overall title would be an uphill battle. However with top 4 finishes in the other 9 races including 1 win, 5 seconds and a third, it meant that Barry-John took a clear 2nd in the championship. He also had 4 fastest laps throughout the season. The McHenry Motorsport team did an excellent job.
Barry-John commented from his Car Sales Business in Baldoyle “It’s a pity about the car breaking in the 2nd last round as I was in a strong 2nd place and my championship rival Alan Quinn was behind me when the car broke. A win there would have made all the difference. I only lost out on 1st place in the final round by 0.1 of a second, crossing the line with team mate Barry Hallion, side by side. No doubt Barry would have let me win had the championship gone to the final round, as the new champion, Alan Quinn finished 4th that day.” With 7 podiums from his 11 starts Barry-John was by far the most consistent driver in the championship, and with 11 different drives taking podium throughout the season, consistency pays a major role in championship success.
Barry-John was supported throughout his campaign by McHenry Car Sales LTD, JH Autobody, Thrifty Car Rental, Paul Kinane Financial Services and Fintekweb.com. Barry-John would like to thank all his sponsors and also his ever reliable team, especially his head engineer Ger Andrews, and the team manager Donagh McHenry. Without them these excellent results would not have been possible.
Barry-John is currently investigating which class to enter for the 2009 season. Barry-John will be selling his Uno racing car, after 3 years in this exciting championship. He has many options but as usual in motor racing the budget will play a major role in his motorsport future.
