The first round on the 2010 Dunlop Abarth cup was held in kirkistown race track in Newtownards. Barry-John headed there with a point to prove after a poor 2009 season. The weakend started badly as Paul Copland in the Kellett Motorsport car had a massive shunt in qualifying ruling him out of both races. Barry-John felt good however and put the Tom Kane Recovery backed car 8th on the grid for race one. He wasn't happy with that but new his good starts would benefit him well and he got his head ready for the first race of the year.
He got an amazing start and moved up no less then then 6 places in the first lap to sit in 2nd place overall. He battled hard but was passed by seasoned regulars Noel Green and John Denning. He held off Gordon Kellett to take 4th place. Barry-John was happy with the solid start and aimed for higher in race two.
He started 7th in this and was up to 5th after the first lap. Again he started picking off his rivels one by one and was quickly up to third. Garry Miller , Noel Green and Barry-John broke from the pack and battled for the lead. It was an immense battle and Garry Miller took his first Abarth win with Barry-John second and Noel Green 3rd. After the race Barry-John commented "im absolutely delighted with that the car was great, BT Racing gave me a perfect package and i am delighted for the team, myself and all my sponsors because we worked hard all winter to be hear today"
Round 3 and 4 of the championship will be held in Mondello park on 9th of May. We hope to see you there.
